 About The Director


Jon Benjamin has been the Director of the Diplomatic Academy since July 2017. from 2014 to 2017 he was the British High Commissioner in Ghana and non-resident Ambassador to Togo, Benin and Burkina faso.

Jon joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Officer in 1986. he has previously served as Ambassador in chile (2009 to 2014), Acting Consul General in New  York (2005 to 2008), Washington (2005) and served in Ankara (1996 to 1999) and Jakarta (1988 to 1991). he has also held several positions in the Foreign & Commonwealth Office.

the Director of the Diplomatic Academy is responsible for the creation and delivery of an Academy which ensures those in the FCO and others working internationally for the government have the diplomatic and linguistic skills  and knowledge they need to deliver Britain’s foreign policy.

Our next Annual General Meeting and 2019/2020 Executive Committee Election will be held as below.

Date    : Monday 28th October 2019
Time   :  18.30 – 20.30hrs
Venue :  Hyatt Regency – The Churchill, 30 Portman Square, London, W1H 7BH.
Who can vote: A person who works within a diplomatic mission or an international organisation accredited to the United Kingdom or holds a position at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and who attended at least one YDL activity and members by special invitation.

To RSVP one’s attendance to the AGM is essential. Please RSVP via email by Thursday 24th  October 2019.

Eleven (11) officers who shall be elected by the membership and shall hold office for one year. At least eight  (8) of the eleven (11) officers shall work within a diplomatic mission or an International Organisation accredited to the United Kingdom or hold a position within the foreign service of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and the other three (3) may be either persons who work within a diplomatic mission or an international organisation accredited to the United Kingdom or hold a position within the foreign service of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office or be members admitted by special invitation with expressed interest in international cultural, convivial and social activities or in international affairs.

Executive Offices to be chosen from among the members of the newly formed Executive Committee are:
Vice President
Secretary General
Legal Secretary
Events Coordinator
Sponsor Liaisons.
